CD (DONA)
The
certified doula recognized by DONA (Doulas
of North America) International has met certain standards.
To become certified in this premier doula organization she must
have:
•
attended a 16 hour or more DONA birth workshop
• read at least 5 books covering a range of topics pertinent
to the childbearing year
• observed at least 12 hours of a childbirth preparation
class
• provided doula services to at least 3 laboring mothers
• documented 3 births and postpartum support including:
o
permission from the mother
o labor progress records
o a written essay for each birth
•
received good evaluations of her services from at least 3 birth
clients plus 3 primary care providers and nurses, or 3 midwives
• agreed to abide by the DONA
Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
• written an essay on the value and purpose of labor support
• maintained current membership in DONA International
A
doula meeting these requirements has garnered comprehensive skills
that support the laboring mother and her family. She becomes a
